Naprosyn
Naproxen is used to relieve mild to moderate pain from various conditions. It reduces pain, swelling, and joint stiffness caused by arthritis. Reducing these symptoms helps you do more of your normal daily activities. Naprosyn E (naproxen enteric coated) 500mg is known as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).
Naprosyn is used for
Treating rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, and juvenile arthritis. It is used to treat tendonitis, bursitis, gout, menstrual cramps, or mild to moderate pain. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How should you take Naprosyn?
Naprosyn may be taken with food or an antacid, and with a full glass of water to avoid stomach upset. Avoid taking it on an empty stomach.
If you are using Naprosyn for arthritis, it should be taken regularly; take it exactly as prescribed.
Do not break, crush, or chew an EC-Naprosyn tablet.
Naprosyn Possible Side Effects
Contact your doctor if you experience blood in vomit or bloody, black, or tarry stools. These symptoms could indicate damage to the stomach or intestines, which could be dangerous. If you experience any of the following serious side effects, stop taking Naprosyn and seek medical treatment or contact your doctor immediately: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); muscle cramps, numbness, or tingling; ulcers (open sores) in the mouth; rapid weight gain (fluid retention); seizures; decreased hearing or ringing in the ears; yellowing of your skin or eyes (jaundice); or abdominal cramping, heartburn, or indigestion. Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Continue to take Naprosyn and talk to your doctor if you experience dizziness or headache; nausea, diarrhea, or constipation; depression; fatigue or weakness; dry mouth; or irregular menstrual periods. Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.
Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
The effects of Naprosyn during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. Naprosyn appears in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If Naprosyn is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment with Naprosyn is finished.
Precaution
Drugs related to naproxen have rarely caused blood clots to form, resulting in serious (possibly fatal) heart attacks and strokes. This medication might also rarely cause similar problems. The risk of these serious side effects may increase if you have heart disease and with longer use of this medication. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the benefits and risks of treatment, as well as other possible medication choices.
Naprosyn storage instructions
Store Naprosyn at room temperature in a well-closed container. Protect from light and extreme heat.
